Plan only
Useful if you want to build the garden yourself or use another contractor. You get the plan and planting list, no build.
Plans, planting and full builds for gardens that work for the way you actually use them.
I design gardens that fit how you actually live. Some clients want a low maintenance space they can sit in with a coffee on a Saturday morning. Some want a proper entertaining area with a patio big enough for a long table. Some want their kids to be able to run around without ruining the planting. Whatever it is, I plan around the use, not around a Pinterest board.
Free, about 45 minutes. I look at the space, ask how you use it now and how you want to use it, and take photos and measurements.
I come back with a plan, materials samples where it helps, and a clear quote. Two rounds of changes are included.
Once the plan is signed off I book the work in. Most full builds run two to four weeks. I keep the site tidy at the end of every day.
I walk you round the finished garden, explain what's been planted where, and leave an aftercare guide. I'm always at the end of the phone if you have questions later.
Quotes are itemised, but here's what moves the number up or down.
For honest indicative ranges, see the pricing guide.
Plan stage usually takes two to three weeks from first visit. Build is anything from a week for a refresh to six weeks for a full overhaul.
New planting needs watering for the first season. I leave you with a watering schedule and a planting plan so you know what each plant is. Hard landscaping is largely maintenance free, though jointing on patios benefits from a brush down once a year.
Alfie laid a porcelain patio for us in March. Turned up when he said he would, kept the place tidy, and finished a day early. The patio looks great and we've had no issues with drainage even after a heavy weekend of rain.
We needed about 25 metres of fencing replacing after a storm took the old one out. Alfie quoted on the day, came back the following week and finished in two days. Concrete posts and gravel boards as standard, no shortcuts.
Brilliant from start to finish. Alfie listened to what we wanted, came back with a plan that was way better than anything we'd thought of, and built it over four weeks. The aftercare guide he left was really useful too.
Composite deck installed on a sloping garden. Alfie sorted out the levels properly and built a frame that feels rock solid. Communication was clear throughout and the price was fair.
Sandstone patio and a low retaining wall. Alfie was the only person who quoted who actually noticed the slope of our garden meant the patio would need a step in the middle. The detail in his work shows.
Ten metres of closeboard fencing along a tricky boundary with a tree. Alfie worked around the roots without damaging the tree and left the run dead straight. Tidy job.

If you know exactly what you want, a landscaper is fine. If you're staring at the garden and not sure where to start, a design stage will save you money in the long run because it stops expensive mistakes.
Plans start from a few hundred pounds for a small garden refresh and run into the low thousands for a full design with planting plan and lighting. Build costs are separate and depend on what's in the plan.
Yes. I source plants from trade nurseries in Surrey and Hampshire, plant them in properly prepared soil, and stake or support anything that needs it.
Often, yes. If you have an architect on a house extension, I can pick up the garden side and coordinate access, levels and drainage with them.
Yes, and you usually should. Mature trees, established hedges and good quality paving are often worth keeping. I'll tell you honestly what's worth saving and what isn't.
Spring and early summer fill up first. For a full build I usually book six to ten weeks ahead. Smaller jobs can sometimes fit in sooner.
Site visits are free, no pressure. Tell me what you have in mind and I'll come round at a time that suits.
