Fencing in Putney

Closeboard, lap, panel and picket fencing fitted with concrete posts and concrete gravel boards.

Fencing in Putney is mostly about getting the boundary right and using posts and gravel boards that will outlast the boards on top. Mansion-block balconies and roof terraces are common, alongside Victorian terraces with narrow rear gardens. The terraces around East Putney often have side returns that can be incorporated into the garden design. Most of my work in Putney is around putney bridge and embankment and the streets either side of it. I always check the deeds note on which boundaries belong to which house before quoting, and I always use concrete posts and concrete gravel boards.

Putney is denser than the towns west of it, with mansion blocks, Victorian terraces, and contemporary apartment buildings along the river. Plenty of small private gardens and roof terraces sit alongside larger family gardens further from the centre. Most fences I fit in Putney are 1.8m closeboard with a 30cm trellis topper, on concrete posts and concrete gravel boards. Lap panels are also common, and they're a good budget option if the boundary is sheltered. I don't fit timber posts straight in the ground because they fail at the base in five to seven years.

What Putney clients say about my fencing

Reviewed on Bark

Ten metres of closeboard fencing along a tricky boundary with a tree. Alfie worked around the roots without damaging the tree and left the run dead straight. Tidy job.

FAQ

Fencing in Putney FAQs

How tall can I have a fence in Putney?

Without planning permission, two metres on rear and side boundaries, one metre on a boundary fronting a road. Putney sits in Wandsworth. The borough has a number of conservation areas, particularly along the river, where listed building rules and material restrictions can apply. I'll flag anything borderline before any work starts.

Do you replace fences after storm damage in Putney?

Yes, regularly. After a bad storm I usually have a string of fence jobs across Putney and the surrounding areas. If you've lost panels or a whole run, get in touch and I'll come and quote.

How quickly can you start a fencing job in Putney?

Spring and early summer are the busiest months. For larger jobs I usually book six to ten weeks ahead. Smaller fencing jobs in Putney can sometimes fit in within a couple of weeks. The best step is a quick call to check current availability.

Do you cover all of Putney?

Yes. Putney (SW15) and the surrounding streets are all within my regular working area. If you're on the edge of Putney or in a neighbouring area like barnes, that's still fine.
