Fencing in Wimbledon
Closeboard, lap, panel and picket fencing fitted with concrete posts and concrete gravel boards.
Fencing in Wimbledon is mostly about getting the boundary right and using posts and gravel boards that will outlast the boards on top. In the Village and on the hill, large gardens with mature trees and conservation area considerations. Lower down, terraces with narrow rear gardens. Listed and conservation work needs sympathetic materials. Most of my work in Wimbledon is around wimbledon common and the streets either side of it. I always check the deeds note on which boundaries belong to which house before quoting, and I always use concrete posts and concrete gravel boards.
Wimbledon ranges from the Village at the top of the hill, with grand period houses and conservation areas, down to the more compact terraces nearer the station and beyond. Variety of garden sizes. Most fences I fit in Wimbledon are 1.8m closeboard with a 30cm trellis topper, on concrete posts and concrete gravel boards. Lap panels are also common, and they're a good budget option if the boundary is sheltered. I don't fit timber posts straight in the ground because they fail at the base in five to seven years.
What I do for every fencing job in Wimbledon
- Removing and disposing of the old fence
- Concrete spurred or full concrete posts, set in postcrete
- Concrete gravel boards along the bottom
- Featheredge or panel boards in your chosen style
- Cap rail along the top
- Tidying the line so it follows the boundary, not the old fence
- Disposal of all old materials and clearing the site

Fencing in Wimbledon FAQs
How tall can I have a fence in Wimbledon?
Without planning permission, two metres on rear and side boundaries, one metre on a boundary fronting a road. Wimbledon is in the London Borough of Merton. Wimbledon Village and parts of the conservation area have stricter rules than the rest of the borough. I'll flag anything borderline before any work starts.
Do you replace fences after storm damage in Wimbledon?
Yes, regularly. After a bad storm I usually have a string of fence jobs across Wimbledon and the surrounding areas. If you've lost panels or a whole run, get in touch and I'll come and quote.
How quickly can you start a fencing job in Wimbledon?
Spring and early summer are the busiest months. For larger jobs I usually book six to ten weeks ahead. Smaller fencing jobs in Wimbledon can sometimes fit in within a couple of weeks. The best step is a quick call to check current availability.
Do you cover all of Wimbledon?
Yes. Wimbledon (SW19, SW20) and the surrounding streets are all within my regular working area. If you're on the edge of Wimbledon or in a neighbouring area like raynes park, that's still fine.
